Become a Certified Dementia Practitioner With Trainers Who Ran Memory Care

- Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP)
- A Certified Dementia Practitioner is a credential from the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners held by staff who work with people living with dementia. It is earned by completing an approved dementia care seminar taught by a Certified Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia Care Trainer, then applying to the council with proof of role and experience.

Eligibility rules are set by the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners, so we confirm your role before you register. Families who want plain-language education should take the free Dementia 101 class instead.
What does the training day cover?
Communication strategies
How language changes across the stages, what to do when words stop landing, and how tone and pace change the outcome of a shift.
Behavior response
Reading agitation, exit seeking, and refusal of care as communication, then responding without restraint and without a power struggle.
Dignity-first care
Personal care, dressing, and mealtimes handled so the resident keeps their standing in the room, including how to coach new staff on it.
Practical skills
Real scenarios from Colorado communities we ran, plus documentation, family conversations, and what surveyors look for.
Confirm format and length with the team. The public day runs morning through late afternoon, and the on-site version is sometimes split across two shorter days so a building can keep coverage.

We come to your building anywhere in Colorado, or run it virtually when your staff is spread across sites. Organizations are invoiced rather than paying seat by seat, and we can split the day by shift.
Why insist on CADDCT-led training? Only a Certified Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia Care Trainer can deliver the seminar that leads to the CDP credential, so a cheaper in-service does not get your staff certified. It also changes what the day sounds like. The examples come from communities we actually ran in Colorado, not from a slide deck.
